2008 Chevy Cobalt SS

The 2008 Chevy Cobalt SS Turbocharged is powered by a 260-horsepower turbocharged and intercooled 2.0L ECOtec engine. With a twin scroll turbo that virtually eliminates turbo lag and fuel supplied via direct injection, the 2008 Cobalt SS has the most advanced engine of the ECOtec family that puts out almost double the horsepower per liter than the world acclaimed ZO6. That's right the new Cobalt SS is a true performer in all aspects. That means that no matter what your heart desires, whether it be John Force like burnouts before a run down your local drag strip or tearing up the twisties at your neighborhood road course or autocross events, the new Cobalt SS will be ready for whatever you want to throw at it. The Cobalt SS offers a perfect balance of track-proven performance capability, driving refinement and premium features. Offered exclusively with a close ratio five-speed manual transmission you'll never be caught out of the powerband. The new Cobalt SS likes to be driven, so much so that it makes sure it doesn't empty your wallet with an estimated 30 mpg in highway driving it has the best gas mileage among its top competitors.

That combination of performance, features and efficiency usually doesn't come cheap, but like everything else about the 2008 Cobalt SS, it's not your typical sport compact car. With a MSRP of $22,995, including a $660 destination charge, the Cobalt SS comes very well equipped at that price, including standard air conditioning, Pioneer premium sound system, remote keyless entry, StabiliTrak electronic stability control system, OnStar and XM Satellite Radio. The new Cobalt SS doesn't skimp on safety either offering a host of standard safety features, including the StabiliTrak electronic stability control system and side-impact air bags. Major options include a sunroof ($750), high-wing rear spoiler ($150) and a limited-slip differential ($495).

The Cobalt SS delivers a quick 0-60 time of approximately 5.7 seconds - thanks to the engines "no-lift shift" calibration - and an impressive maximum lateral grip of 0.9 g. This combination enabled the Cobalt SS to set a new class record when running the famed Nurburgring racing circuit, posting a time of 8:22.85 minutes. A time that famed performance cars like the Acura NSX, Nissan Skyline, and Volkswagen R32 miss by no less than 6 seconds. Driver-selectable competition modes help maximize performance whether on the street or track.

Four-wheel disc brakes with standard ABS help ensure the car stops as confidently as it accelerates and corners. The front brakes are from Brembo and have a performance-oriented, fixed-caliper design, which resists fade better than floating caliper designs; the rear discs are vented for better heat dissipation. Large, twin-five-spoke 18-inch forged aluminum wheels and performance tires are standard. They're mounted on sporty 225/40-series summer tires that give you the security to attack whatever corners call your name. The 2008 Cobalt SS makes sure you ride in style with SS-embroidered sport seats that offer suede-like UltraLux inserts, a specific performance oriented gauge cluster and an A-pillar-mounted turbo boost gauge.

The new 2008 Cobalt SS Turbocharged coupe is expected to arrive in dealerships in late April but don't expect to see the Cobalt SS sitting at your dealer, they'll be flying off the lots faster than they can lap "The Ring."
