Diamond Who What Where?

In a nutshell, there is a ton of information about the Diamond Star variants, differences, and model year changes. Additionally, the "top secret" tips for how best to turn your Diamond Star into a shooting star are well documented as "upgrade paths" found readily on the internet, as well as the the dispersion of many myths about how the 1G and 2G cars take to certain "common sense" modifi cations. For example, since the platforms we are talking about are turbocharged, errant logic would have you think that simply turning up the boost (whether with an electronically controlled wastegate actuator or by physically bending the OE wastegate actuator arm) would yield more boost and subsequently more power. However, DSM enthusiasts are well aware of the limitations of the factory blow-off valve, which leaks boost above 14 psi. Continuing down the slippery slope would then tell us that upgrading to an aftermarket unit vented into the atmosphere would make our car sound more aggressive and allow us to run higher boost pressures. Again, experience wins over as the 4G63 DSMs are known to 'require' excess boost pressure to be rerouted back into the intake system, keeping everything in balance. As you can see, the decade long history of 4G63 tuning has amassed a fountain of knowledge that is well beyond the scope of this column. It's best to read the many opinions of the expert and experienced when it comes time to start tinkering with your DSM.
