Prodigal Child

Scion. By definition it means "descendent", and while the Lexus line preceded Toyota's foray into the younger generation of cashcarrying spenders, the Toyota seal is stamped everywhere one looks at the Scion showroom floor. For starters, both the xA and xB inherit the 1NZ-FE engine from the now defunct Toyota Echo; while the Echo wasn't exactly a superstar in the performance marketplace, core Echo enthusiasts still managed to conjure up turbo kits, engine swap guidelines, and the like - essentially creating the map for novice x-Series Scionites to follow. While the tC marked the fi rst "official" U.S. market Scion brand that wasn't based off any past chassis (both the xB and xA have outside-of-North-America counterparts), it still stayed true to Toyota's "modular" car building ethic by including the 4- cyl 2AZ-FE engine already found in the Camry and other Toyota variants. While the Camry wasn't exactly a devastatingly popular tuner vehicle, that could have meant that aftermarket pickings for the tC would have been diminutive. However, since the Scion line was marketed toward the ostensible "tuner crowd", the aftermarket wasted no time in offering everything from body kits to forced induction tricks in just under a year of availability. Besides, with TRD offering an increasing line of parts for the cars, there's no telling just how far this soci-economic car experiment will go.
